Lots of folks start with a lot of enthusiasm so hopefully you are just as motivated for day 2.

I'm super proud of you for doing this. Yes, some may think its a bit early for pride, but rubbish! Starting is super hard. Whatever your circumstance, I am nearly certain this isn’t the first time you’ve thought about improving your health or your happiness. So I want to thank you for joining the challenge and I seriously want to let you know that you should be proud of yourself too. Deliberate growth is not for the faint of heart. There is this famous quote that I really like by Theodore Roosevelt:


“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”


So kudos to you. Stay in it, even when you stumble - keep daring!


There is a reason we are starting so small. It's because empirical evidence tends to flies in the face of “go big or go home.” Lots of folks end up doing both….they go so big, they get tired and go home. Sure its an awesome attitude to have when you’re really feeling energized, and it looks great on a motivational poster, but a lifestyle is really more tortoise than hare.

The brain is an incredible threat detector. Often if the project we are trying to do is too big, the fear center of the brain, the amygdala activates to prevent us from emotional or physical harm. The result is avoidance, procrastination, excuses, rationalization...sound familiar?


So the idea of going small and steady to win the race and choosing only three exercises for a successful day is kind of like sneaking past the amygdala, the security guard of your brain. Its like a brain hack.


Of course this is highly variable - everyone is different. You might look at the 30 Day Calendar and think "...What? This is too easy, I didn’t sign up for this! I wanted to whip myself back into shape!"


If you had that thought, I'm glad.

If the calendar is too easy that means your amygdala isn’t recognizing any danger at all. And that's why you’ll be that much more successful. Remember also, that this a healthy AND happy challenge. Lots of folks are fit, but they are not all happy, and that's not healthy.


Lastly, I don’t want to whip you into shape at all, actually...I want to "WOOP" you into shape, but I’ll explain that in tomorrow’s episode.
